This year, more than 8,800 applications were submitted to the Pop Warner national office. All recipients are invited to attend the 53rd Annual All-American Scholar Banquet, taking place on Friday, May 24 & Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the Boston Marriott Copley Place.

Furthermore, we are getting ready to send out the annual scholar mailing to all of this year’s recipients, which contains all of the information about your All-American Scholar Award as well as information about to this year’s event.

2012 National Travel Grant Application
For the fourth consecutive year, Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. is pleased to announce it is able to offer Pop Warner Travel Grants for ELIGIBLE POP WARNER FOOTBALL TEAMS AND CHEER/DANCE SQUADS that have qualified for the Pop Warner Super Bowl or National Cheer and Dance Championships.

You can submit your Travel Grant Application one of two ways:

There is no gate charge for entry for tie breaker. Peace River will be paying for referees.

Drawings for playoff sites will be drawn immediately following the completion of these tie breakers at Riverdale.

Enter the 2012 Pop Warner Photo Contest to Win $250!

With the 2012 Pop Warner season in full-swing, we are looking for the best photos from your team’s season so far. Submit your favorite photos showing us what you have been doing so far this season (practice photos, team events, fundraisers, etc.) along with a brief explanation of your photos.

Submit your best 2012 season football/cheer/retro photos for a chance to win a $250.00 association grant or $50 worth of Pop Warner Shop merchandise for your association/team!

Once again, we will be holding the photo contest in three different tracks: Football Photos, Cheer & Dance Photos and Pop Warner “Blast from the Past” Photos. The new historical track will allow teams to submit photos from their program’s history. (I.e. Mom/Dad playing, Past Championships, Trips to Nationals, etc.)

All accepted photos will be reviewed by a panel of judges and the top 10 finalists in each category will be posted to the Pop Warner Facebook Page where the fans will vote for the winner. Voting will occur from October 10-15 (Deadline is 5 p.m. EST), and the photo with the most “Likes” in each of the three tracks will win a $250 prize for that person’s association!

The deadline for this year’s photo contest is Friday, October 5, 2012 at Midnight EST.

After the winners have been announced, we will also display a photo slideshow featuring select photos on Facebook and www.popwarner.com. Submit your photos today, and enter for a chance to share with the world what’s going on in your Pop Warner Program!
Contest Rules & Timeline:
Must be 18 years of age or older to enter contest.
All entries must be from Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. (PWLS) members in good standing.
All Entries and Photos must be submitted online by Midnight EST on Friday, October 5, 2012.
Photos may be submitted in three tracks: Football, Cheer & Dance and “Blast from the Past.”
Submissions shall be limited to no more than (2) Photos per I.P. address for each track.
A panel of judges selected in the sole discretion of PWLS, Inc. will rank the photos and choose 10 finalists in each of the 3 categories and such finalists’ will then be posted to the Pop Warner Facebook Page for fan voting. Pop Warner Facebook Fans shall vote for the winner in each of the 3 categories by Liking their favorite photograph in each of the 3 categories.
Finalist voting shall commence no later than October 10 and shall end no later than October 15, 2012 (5 p.m. EST) on Facebook. The photo with the most “Likes” will be the winner (A one vote differential shall be sufficient to select a winner).
In the event of a tie, a tie breaker vote shall be implemented via the same process of Liking the photographs on Facebook. In the event of any further tiebreakers, the panel of judges shall select a winner.
Photographs must be in the following format: Maximum size is 1 MB color or black & white photo. No alterations to photographs, including but not limited to, changing colors, adding elements, photoshopping, captions, will be accepted.
Entries including any offensive language and/or elements will not be accepted. Entries must include Pop Warner subject matter to be eligible.
Photo submissions will also be displayed on www.popwarner.com and Facebook.
Winning association in each track will be awarded the $250.00 prize.
Program who submits the winning photo in each track will also receive $50 in credit for www.popwarnershop.com.

With these rule changes, Pop Warner becomes the first youth football organization to officially limit contact during practices. The changes can be found in the 2012 Official Pop Warner Rule Book and are a result of the advice of our Medical Advisory Board and the direct input of Pop Warner regional and local administrators and coaches.

The New Rules Are as Follows:

No full speed head-on blocking or tackling drills in which the players line up more than 3 yards apart are permitted. (Having two linemen in stances immediately across the line of scrimmage from each other and having full-speed drills where the players approach each other at an angle, but not straight ahead in to each other are both permitted.)
However, there should be no intentional head-to-head contact!

The amount of contact at each practice will be reduced to a maximum of 1/3 of practice time (either 40 minutes total of each practice or 1/3 of total weekly practice time). In this context, “contact” means any drill or scrimmage in which drills; down line vs. down line full-speed drills; and scrimmages.
In addition to the above, we would also like to reiterate the technique portion of Rule 14 of the Pop Warner National Rule Book, 11-Man Tackle Football, regarding teaching safe blocking and tackling techniques which states:

RULE 14: BLOCKING AND TACKLING
RESTRICTIONS

In addition to other specific prohibitions in the National Federation and NCAA rulebooks, no butt blocking, chop blocking, face tackling or spearing techniques shall be permitted.

Furthermore, we will be implementing a new Health & Safety section on popwarner.com in conjunction with the re-launch of our national website to keep our members abreast of current issues in concussion awareness and other health and safety matters. We hope that this resource will become a valuable tool for our teams.

Over the next several weeks as we all prepare for the kick off of the 2012 season, the Pop Warner National Office staff will be available to answer any questions you may have on these rule changes or other coaching and administrative issues. We will host online chats, add helpful tips for practice and planning to our website and Facebook page, and as always will be available by phone and email to answer any questions.

Pop Warner, in conjunction with Team Cheer, is proud to announce the 2012 Team Cheer Uniform Grant Program. Pop Warner Associations can apply for and receive a $500.00 voucher for official Team Cheer uniforms. Please note that the voucher covers uniforms only and DOES NOT cover sneakers and/or other apparel.

Applicants must prove that a uniform grant would impact the organization in one of the following ways: help to develop a new program, increase the number of participants in an existing program, decrease overall cost of the program for youth/families, and/or enhance the experience to retain youth in program.

PLEASE NOTE: This year, Pop Warner is accepting electronic submissions as well as paper applications for the 2012 Pop Warner/Team Cheer Uniform Grant. Please choose only ONE method of submission – either e-mail or mail. We will not review applications that are submitted via multiple methods.
